Getting there.. A little more new metal, and shaping the bend line. Might have to delete that part of the metal and replace with another piece. The line dosen't match the doors line. Suppose I have to watch my welding heat.

Well. Getting there. After the new metal is all in and lookin' good. We then switch over to a lower wheel grit to make the grinds a little smoother. Then we use a thin coat of bondo. Yes, that's the real way Bondo is supposed to be used. Sand, and fill again if needed. More on that when we got to that part of the restoration. So, till next time. See ya all.   Oh, I almost forgot.... I uploaded a new Pictural restoration video. Part two...

Body prep 03.

Okay, now we continue with the Drivers side fender. There is more to do to this fender. At the top where the seam is. There is a little hole about 1/4 the size of a dime. This has to be filled in, grinded and Bondoed. All inside the seams need to be cleaned up and the rust needs to go. Got to find a tool that will remove the rust. Hopefully, all of the rust, but I think that will be impossible. So, we clean out as much as we can and use chemicals to stop the rust. More on this later.

For now, here's some more pictures of todays progress. This part of the fender is NOT done yet. But, we are making good progress on this part. More when there is time....

The inside of this part of the fender. I had to fabricate and weld in the structure to house this part of the fender. When this was fixed before, probally in the early 80's they did not cut out and install new metal. They just piled in the Bondo and shapped.

Hey, Hey, Hey!... Before the Bondo. This is the way Bondo is supposed to be used. On metal.

This is two "thin" passes of Bondo. Sand with a block. Using rounded paper only for the curves out. Now, it's time to use "Body Putty" on the Bondo to even fill in the fine marks and make it even smoother.

Today come home from work late. I did get out the fender to do a few things to it. I continued on the bottom and then desided to start to remove the rust spots. Man, there is a lot of little, little just starting rust spots all over the fender. If thats any indication of the rest of the paint on the car, I am going to be sanding a lot... Better start looking into a electric front to back sander.

Still working on the blttom area, it's not done yet... Got more sanding and spotting to do... So, here's a few pictures of todays progress...

I used a flap sander wheel for those peskey rust spots. Got to go down to the metal. Some look small, but in real life, the rust is larger under the paint.

If you look at some of the pictures of the fender above, and have a closer look. You will see these all over the fender. I have a feeling, the whole car is like this.... So, large spot by large spot when the time comes. Feathering the paint really isen't as difficult as it looks. Just time consuming.

Haven't been working on the car too much this week. Been busy with other stuff. I got home at 3 today. diden't have anything else going on so I worked on the fender again.... Fixed the little rust hole, and found and fixed another at the other end. Wire wheeled the rust inside... I am still building out the lower fender patch, nearly there... I will need to stop at a store and see if I can get a 400 grit flap wheel or standard wheel for the old paint feathering...

Progress.... Here's pictures of todays progress....

The rust hole at the front. Need to re sand and use some bondoo and putty.... More work on this area.

Looks like it's going to be saturday late afternoon until I can get back to this project.... Sunday looks like the whole day.... So, in the words of "Chief Ed", every time there was a fair house meeting. When asked for a Chief report he would almost always say. "Progress"....

Today I continued on the drivers fender. During last week diden't get much done. Been busy with work and other stuff... Nothing going on today so I set up the horses and worked on the fender... Almost ready to paint.... A little more putty in a few places, some sanding then it's spray the Rust O leum primer. Got to set up for spraying. Might work on a place to paint behind the fence tomorrow after work. Have to make a roof and sides so no stuff falls on it from the trees and the wind kicking up once in a while.

Today, I preped the fender. Almost ready. After it's ready for the actual paint, I'll put it aside and continue with the passinger side fender, and so on until all the front parts are ready for actual color painting. Paint all at once. At least 3 coats... Anyway, still have a ways for that. Here's pictures of todays progress....
