We continue the car's restoration on this new page. This is Page 47. Waiting for the spring time...

04-18-14
Last Sunday was a nice spring day.... I was off from work, and desided to get ready to work on the car... First, needed to make a new sun screen cover. My neighbor gave me their old sun patio cover that was damaged by the winter. I adjusted the material for use on mine, and made a new sun cover to go over the frame. Worked out good.

Vic stopped over. He's also gettin' itchy to work outside on the car. While Vic was continuing on the doors, I desided to ready the 2 rear wheels and also, if time allowed to paint the wheels. I did get them painted, that evening, a cold front came in, and the wheels was tacky for a few days. But, I protected them, and they are okay, dry, and curing in the booth.

Next nice day, is continuing on the doors, and after they are done we put the rear wheels back on, and lower her to raise thefront and work on the front wheels. So, Last sunday was the start of the 2014 restoration season... Here's what was done.... We now are waiting for nicer days. The cold front is still here.....

Making the cover to fit, and to install piping on each end for pulling to cover, and pulling to uncover. If I left the cover up. The wind would destroy it, and possibly flying through the cars windows. That we do not want to happen.

Pulling the cover on top. The pull ropes makes it easy.

The wheels have surface rust, much like the rear suspension parts. I used sandpaper, wire bruch, and the air wire brush.

Masking the wheels for painting. The proper way (and expensive way) is to remove the tires, and sand blast. But, this car is on a budget, and this way is the next best way.

There is black paint allready on from 1962. We sanded and preped it for re painting. The color is what is going to be the whole car, including the inside. It's my own mix.

Both back wheels. I don't have to take them off again. I will cover, for booth painting.... Matter of fact, the permitter of the car under, will be blocked from over spray as will the engine compartment.... But, there is time for that, another page....

Yes, Inside and out. The wheel covers will allow a little bit of the color show around the edge of the wheel covers (hub caps) These wheel covers are full covers, and is what was shipped with the car originally from 1962. They are stanless steel. :-)

It's easter..... It's 51 outside, winds ar 20.... Well, nothin' done today... I am going to have to partly re cover the booth. The winter, has streatch and made holes in the sides and around the corners. I have several additional bill board material, and I will take car of the holes when the weather brakes. Must fix before the body parts get permitter painted before they go back on the car. need to have a few weeks as curing time, even though they will be painted over again on the car...

Well, it's still awaiting game now..... Until next time everyone.... Chow!

Had a few hours on Monday after work. The weather was nice, The sun was out, and no wind. I continued on the doors. Vic came over and continued on the passenger side doors while I was prepping the drivers doors... Got the rust cleaned up, and some primer on the inside of the doors. Will continue Wednesday if the weather is good... Until then. Here's some pictures of the days work, and a short video... Chow!.

The grinder has two types of wheels. One, for paint and light rust stripping, and the other side is a cutting disk. I am removing the rust from under the door and in the creases.

Today I was off from work... Windy at 25mph, Cold.... Not much done, but a little... Started on the passenger side doors. Had to weld some rust holes. removed the fin extenders and bagged them. One needs some body work, and then paint both. Will paint when the car get's painted as all of the other inside stuff. Except the steering wheel. That has some special handeling while the car is drying.... But that is a lot later.

We were only out there for a few hours. Too windy, and too cold.... Seems like Sunday is going to be the day to continue.... Until then, or in the week....

We have finally set her down to work on the front wheels and brakes. The doors are ready for sanding, and we are ready to remove the front wheels for new bearings, and break hardware and new shoes. The following took a few days inbetween work and all the regular every day stuff I had to do, but we are well underway. The weather, Thats a different story. But, for now, here's what we did, and the progress....
