Prep For Painting 02

All in all a very good day. Just must have to get rid of the critters inside the booth. That will be tomorrow... I will arm myself to fight them. Before the car goes in, I will clear out the booth and hose it out from ceiling to bottom.... Then, the car's roof to start. That is, if no rain... See ya next entry. Chow!.

Ant update: Most are gone. I also used some commercial stuff. They take the food (poison) back to the nest, and they all die!... Most are gone. I will put down more when the time comes.

Today we start to remove the old paint and the old primer. On the roof, is the worst place for the pant to get weather beaten. There are a few scratches. Most likely from 2x4's being carried back in the 70's and 80's by the first owner. We remove the paint right down to the metal. Removing the old cracked, and broken seam sealer in the water gutter. That will be replaced.

This area, in the gutter, is where the roof and the posts are soldered. No welding in this area, they used soulder back then. This is soft, and I will need to use body putty over the primer to smooth out the curves. Seam sealer in the gutter is going to be somewhat difficult. But, I will do it. It will take time to get it looking like 1962. Here's what was done so far...

Came home a little early today. Had a few hours to continue on the roof. Removing old paint. I finished removing the paint, but still had some prepping to to do, and some removing odds and ends before masking. So, that is what I did.

After all the paint was removed, I cleaned with paint thinner. There was a lot of stripping and grinding dust all over the car.

Well, everyone. We made it this far. The roof is primered. Tomorrow, it's sand along the gutters and find a way to neatly put some seam sealer in there. I will sand the sealer, and most likely hit it again with a few coats of primer. it's supposed to be cloudy tomorrow, 10% chance of rain, but, it looks good for tomorrow. I am off from work.

I will most likely do some spotting putty also. Have a look, it did go good except for a couple of small bugs getting into the primer. They will be wet sanded out when it's time to wet and the whole car.... Here's how the day went. A good day it was!.
