  We are at the stage of prepping the rear fins, and trunk area, along with attending to the gutters. New seam sealer in the gutters, and we will be removing some spot rust comming through the paint on the fins, and around the trunk area. It's all surface rust, and a pass of the paint remover will remove the rust, plus the paint and the 1962 primer. We must then prep the area for a new coat.

  There will be several times going over this area, as the low spots will need to be filled with body putty, wet sanded, and shot again with primer. So, for now, this is what is going on.

  We install the new seam sealer in the gutters. It's not that easy to do a nice job. Messy, if you don't take masking precautions.

  Removing the old weather stripping glue. A new weather stripping gasket will be installed later.

  Using the paint stripper. Where the rust is comming through, or the complete area around it. There are many.

  Feather the areas. Water sanding a must.

  Primer. I'm using the caned primer. better aim for the nooks and crannies. Saving my detailer paint sprayer for later. Paint sprayers should be seperated for primer and color.

  Now, we use body putty for the low spots. This will take several applications.

  Now, we start on the cow. This area, I cleaned out the inside the best I could. I stripped off all the paint, and prepping for a new coat of primer on the whole cow, and later, I will be coloring in the cow, and the side boxes. These should be painted color, as it was in 1962. But, that is for another day. This area took quite a while, as to get the water and air fins good. Here's what was done. We are making good progress this season......

  Not in bad shape. But, the saturation of the rust under the paint would take many hours to seperately remove. So, we remove all the paint, and sand a few places and hit it with primer. better, and easier. So, this day, took a while.

  All the paint removed, as best as I can. Now, hand sanding to feather around the wiper gears.

  This is the primer. The lower part get's sanded. This is in good condition, and then we hit it with color.

  Yes, the cow is ready for wet sanding. Hopefully, next day off. Color!... Hopefully.....

  We are moving along. More removals, as this part of the restoration has more stuff to remove because it's better to remove than to mask. Some stuff, like the vent windows and rubber gasket should be removed, but, at the cost of 200.00+ for new, I'll mask and clean them up. Maybe at a later date I will get new, but for now, we will be masking for painting the doors.

  The steering wheel has been removed, but just resting in place for moving around the car. Remember, the dash must also get sanded and painted. We will deal with the dash after the doors are ready and the color perrimiter has color, so the fenders can go back on. For now, here is waht was done last Sunday. We wait again for another day off.

  Removing the windows weather stripping. I call them "The Fuzzy's". There are two, inside and outside. They should be replaced, but I can not find them yet. Might have to re ferb these.

  Now, the window weather stripping (Also known as the window tracking).

  Headliner masking. This is in repairable condition. New, the rear and windshield must be removed. Costly, so we mask. Maybe another year for new headliner, new windshield gasket, and rear window gasket.
